My uncle Ralph Buckingham had a 35-millimeter camera and took some Kodachrome slides, probably in 1949 and 1950.  His exterior shots were a little underexposed for a cloudy day.

Nearly 60 years later, from the same angle, I took the second picture below in November 2008.

Highland Avenue, appropriately enough, runs along the top of a ridge.  The two-lane road serves as U.S. Route 22, headed toward Cadiz and Steubenville.  A detail from one of my uncle's slides (right) reveals that in front of our house it was paved in brick, with curbs and a very thin coating of asphalt.  The asphalt is thicker nowadays.
