Inside
this track, a baseball field can comfortably share space with a
football field, because the track is much bigger. Instead of
440 yards with two turns, it measures 660 yards with three.
(Distance runners will still find a turn every eighth of a mile,
which is just what they're accustomed to.) The finish line of
this tri-oval is near third base.
The
green seats are permanent. The blue ones can be relocated in
the fall to the baseball outfield, where they face the football sideline.
This
plan uses a lot of acreage, and track coaches might grumble, but it
could work. However, nighttime lighting for football might be
rather one-sided.
