Real Tiger
Written May 25, 2006

Richwood High School fans arriving for a basketball game received printed programs that listed the players by name, number, grade, and height.  Ours were mimeographed on single sheets of orange paper, folded in half.

For the February 12, 1965, game against the Marion Catholic Irish, the cover artwork showed a winking tiger wearing a crown while chewing a shamrock.  Unfortunately for the Tigers, we didn't actually chew up the Irish that night; we lost.  But fortunately for me, I got to broadcast the third quarter on WMRN-FM, which led to my present career.

The back cover of the program had a feature on one of the members of the team.  For this game, I was the subject.  At the risk of immodesty, I reproduce here what was written on that page, including typos.  Click on various accomplishments to go to related articles.

(I point out, at even further risk of boasting, that I went on to finish all eight semesters with a 4.0 average to become the valedictorian of my class.  And I placed first in the state in physics in the 1965 Ohio Scholarship Tests.)

MEET THE TIGERS:

             TOM THOMAS
