Pecos Bill

Written September 8, 2007

One of the older videocassettes on my shelves is an episode of Tall Tales and Legends called "Pecos Bill: King of the Cowboys," taped on a Hollywood soundstage in 1986.  Having first seen the hour on Showtime, I recorded it when a children's channel repeated it in 1994.  Now I've captured some frames, as you see below.

The stars in funny hats were (L to R) Martin Mull and Rebecca DeMornay, with Steve Guttenberg as Bill.

Also in the cast was Megan Mullally (L) as one of the annoying sisters with squeaky voices.

I've noticed various interesting details.  For example, in a dramatic night scene, twice in 20 seconds Rebecca comes up close behind Steve; then, because he's in her light, she has to back off to escape his shadow.

Also, there seems to be an "L" missing from the copyright date.  The program was not really produced in 1936 — at least, I think not.

Mostly, however, I enjoy watching the beautiful Rebecca DeMornay at age 27 (three years after Risky Business) and the changing expressions on her face.
