My Double's Still At Large
Written Dec. 5, 2000

When I ate lunch today at the Down Under Steak House, the waitress asked me, "Weren't you just here this morning for breakfast?"  I told her no.  "Well, then, you must have a twin," she replied.

This isn't the first time that I've been mistaken for somebody else.  A decade ago, two local people stared at me open-mouthed when I denied that I was the person they thought I was.  At the Eat 'N Park, another waitress asked if I wanted my usual strawberry milkshake, something that I had never before ordered.  Then I met a stranger on the street near the Highlands Middle School.  He thought he knew me; I had a hard time convincing him otherwise.

Personally, I've never seen this other guy who looks just like me, but he must live not far away.  It's a scary thought.  Considering how easy it is for eyewitnesses to make mistaken identifications to the authorities, I hope that both my double and I stay on the right side of the law, or one of us may find himself in trouble for something that the other one did!
