ESP EXPERIMENT:  A HINT

Try the experiment again, but this time, don't just memorize your card.  Record the data more scientifically.

1.  Make a note of which eye you click to prime the system.

2.  When the computer shows you six cards, write down the names of all six and underline your one choice; for example, the jack of diamonds.  Say that card's name out loud.

KH    JC    KS    QD   QC    JD

3.  Then make a note of which of the six eyes you click.

4.  When the computer takes away one card — your card! — write down the names of the five cards that remain.

QH    KC    JH    QS    KD

5.  Now analyze your data by comparing the two lists.

No matter which of the six cards you chose in step 2, that card is not among the five "remaining" cards in step 4 — because none of the cards from step 2 are among the cards in step 4!

The computer merely asks you to choose one of six cards, then presents you with five entirely different cards that naturally do not include your choice.  You never notice the substitution of five different cards, because you're concentrating on remembering the one that you chose.
